This is the homepage of the Intermediate East Computer Lab website. My name is Mr. Trimble and this is my fourth year teaching in the Computer Lab. The following curriculum summary shares the focus of the fourth and fifth grades. If you have any questions, please email me.

Grades 4 & 5: 2004-2005
Learning to use technology is essential for achieving success in our society. In order to best prepare our students to live and work in our world, they must learn to use computers as a tool for improving and extending their learning. Students are exposed to a variety of activities and software that encourage independent computer skills that will enable them to succeed.

Grades 4 & 5: Computer Education Focus
Building self-confidence in using technology as a tool throughout curriculum

Introduction/review of basic computer skills:
Use of Mac OS X desktop

Basic computer terminology, mouse/track pad control, using the menu bar, using shortcut commands and saving to a server folder
Introduction/advanced use of the following applications:

Type to Learn: practice basic keyboarding skills
Microsoft Word: word processing and working with graphics

bullet

Microsoft Power Point: create a power point presentation with digital pictures, sounds, animation and customized effects

bullet

Internet Explorer: use search engines to do research

bullet

KidPix3: create pictures using tools, graphics and animation

bullet

Inspiration: create graphic organizers, timelines, character mapping, etc.

bullet

World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia: use advanced search features to do research and print results
